Your very own DIY Enchanted Fairy Garden

Summer is here and even though we have all been waiting eagerly for some fun weekends at the beach and family vacations it also means for lots of us to keep our little ones occupied.

This DIY fairy garden project is the perfect opportunity to create something fun with your kiddos that will also add a cute centerpiece to your backyard.

LIST OF MATERIALS:

  • container

  • dirt & soil to fill the container

  • rocks, sticks, marbles, mosaic pieces, glass pieces, pebbles

  • artificial turf, artificial moss, artificial plants/trees etc.

  • real moss, succulents, bonsai tree

  • fairy houses, bridges, accessories

  • fairies
(most items you can either order online, go to a craft store like Michaels, 99c store and Home Depot)

Let’s get started: You can use any sort of container, vase, flower pot, maybe even an old tub (as we will show you in some pictures below) to build your fairy garden in.

Fill the container with dirt and some gravel but make sure that the top 3'“-4” are good soil that can nourish any plants, succulents and moss. Now your creativity can roam free. You can add anything to your fairy garden from as previously mentioned moss (you can also use artificial kinds if you want a no maintenance kind of fairy garden), small succulents, bonsai trees, all sorts of artificial plants, trees and turf. If you love to go hiking with your little ones, have them collect some small flat rocks that can be used as “fairy stepping stones”, marbles, mosaic pieces, glass beads, wood chips, anything and everything is doable! Think of how many fairy houses you want to position (local 99c stores or craft stores are a great resource for small fairy houses and accessories). To top things off and to give it a realistic night time atmosphere as well, go to your local store (again 99c is where the goodies are) and grab some solar twinkle lights. As soon as the sun goes down, the fairy houses and surroundings can still give you a WOW effect. Build the path from one house or fairy play structure to the next. You can look at some city maps with your kids to get inspirations and for them a better understanding on how to work the layout. If you have a lot of extra time on your hands (like we all do right???) you can even build your own structures, bridges, fairy playgrounds etc. the options are really endless.

Happy fairy gardening!
