Fencing & Privacy Screens

A sturdy and beautiful fence really frames any backyard nicely area and can add so much more value to your property. There are so many designs and materials available that it can be overwhelming to find the right fit for your needs.

Let’s go over your material selection first:

1) The all wooden fences. This one is an all time classic. Wooden fences can have countless looks to them, depending on kind of wood, wooden slab sizes and alignment/orientation as a fence. These kind of fences are sturdy but the rule of thumbs is: the better the wood quality, the longer the fence will stand. You also want to decide on the the kind of footing that will support your fence.

2) Metal/steel fences are another sturdy solution. One very important word to remember if this is the way to go is GALVANIZED. If you choose any steel, galvanized is a must, otherwise your fence will be flaking like a bad sunburn after a week. Chain link fences are also a type of metal fence, even though this alternative might be considered rather an “eye sore” than a beautiful frame for your home. Chain fences are the cheaper way of metal fencing and are used for many community areas and schools.

3) Vinyl fences. Both vinyl and wood fences come in a wide range of options. With wood, you have more than a dozen popular options to choose from (cedar, oak and redwood, just to name the most popular ones). Vinyl is an affordable type of plastic that comes in many styles and preferences to meet your privacy needs. The 2 big pros of vinyl fencing are: It will look new longer and not have the degrading process as wood does AND it costs less than wood. Wooden fences on the other hand will always provide that classic look like no other material will ever provide. The lifespan of a vinyl fence is 100 years (that is impossible to top).

4) Bamboo fencing. This material can give you a very exotic and unique look of your home. Bamboo is also a eco friendly alternative to wood (and we are all about that eco friendly lifestyle as you know). It can be stained in any color you desire which is a nice add on. Bamboo is also harder than wood, therefor will last you through different weather conditions better than wood can. Because bamboo grows so quickly and can be harvested much more than regular forests; bamboo is incredibly affordable, even though cedar wood still wins the first place for affordable natural materials. Fences made out of bamboo will retain its strength despite discoloring or cracking. Bamboo should never be in direct contact with the ground as it can erode. It will give you a similar lifespan as wood, about 20 years.

Again, it really comes down to how much you want to spend and the look you are going for but to wrap it up in one sentence: don’t go too cheap on your materials since you most likely will end up replacing the entire fence much earlier than you could with better and stronger materials.

Now let’s talk about those privacy screens…if you just want a specific section of your property, or maybe an area around your spa a little more closed off, privacy screens are a great solution. There are lots of different materials to pick from, metal, wood, bamboo and so on but we want to introduce you to one of our favorite options out there: a beautiful metal screen, available in different pattern and sizes. This option is very easy to customize and adds not just purpose but also a beautiful eye catcher.
