This years landscaping trends

As we are heading towards the end of the year (hard to believe I know), let’s take a look back at all those landscaping trends that flooded our backyards, side yard and front yards this year. Some of the trends appear to be timeless and will surely still make appearances in the following year, let’s recap our top 9 trends of 2023:

  • Metals: Incorporating different metals into your outdoor space is a beautiful and elegant way to add structures and eye catching elements that are also useful. You can use metal planters, metal edges to create separations or metal shade structures.

  • Drought tolerant planting design only: As we become more and more conscious of the ongoing climate change and the realization that water is a priceless and precious source (with a decreasing supply each year) plant designs are gearing towards succulents and those drought tolerant shrubs and trees to be the focal point of their landscape design. Many homeowners are opting for low-maintenance landscaping designs that require less water, pruning, and overall upkeep.

  • Vertical Gardens and Green Walls: As urban living spaces become smaller, vertical gardens and green walls are gaining popularity. These structures allow for the cultivation of plants in a vertical space, providing a touch of greenery in limited areas, along fences or even house walls, just make sure proper drip irrigation and drainage is provided to ensure the house walls don’t get any water damage as well as your plants receive adequate water supplies.

  • Edible Landscaping: Growing your own food has become a popular trend. Homeowners are incorporating edible plants, herbs, and even small fruit trees into their landscaping designs. This trend started during the Covid 19 pandemic and has been increasing ever since. A lot of herbs also add a fresh scent to your outdoor space and attract butterflies and hummingbirds

  • Smart Landscaping Technology: In our modern times almost everything is remotely adjustable from your phone devices which also means the integration of technology into landscaping has been growing ever since and companies are incorporating these smart devices and apps to almost all their . This includes smart irrigation systems, lighting, and other automated features that can be controlled remotely using smartphones or other devices. To be able to turn on or off your outdoor lighting and irrigation has added incredible convenience and flexibility to any home owner.

  • Wildlife-Friendly Gardens: With an increased awareness of environmental issues, more people are creating gardens that attract and support local wildlife, such as bees, butterflies, and birds. This involves planting native flowers, shrubs, and trees that provide food and shelter.

  • Yards for Wellness: This one could also be an aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic…this year has drawn lots of trends towards designing the yards for wellness, creating spaces devoted to relaxation and rejuvenation. Rather than escaping the home we want to stay in our homes and transform the space into the area we feel most on ease.

  • Plunge Pools: Plunge pools are part of the wellness movement for our yards. They are much smaller than a regular pool which means more cost efficient and less maintenance required. This kind of water feature is a beautiful and still useful addition to your outdoor space.

  • Outdoor Living Room: Fire pits have always been a top request but this year we have noticed a big increase in fire pit requests. Adding a cozy fireplace area truly brings the living room vibes to your outdoor space. Designing exterior landscape for day and night entertainment along with this is a great way to add value and lots of future gatherings to your life.
