How to upgrade an ugly retaining wall

If we told you the images below are the same back yard, would you believe us? This may be one of our greatest transformations yet. We are not trained magicians, but we can make a pool disappear and we can completely change the appearance of your retaining walls.

Here at EcoDesignSD we do our best to reduce waste. For this particular project we came face to face with a not so attractive retaining wall displaying outdated stucco and brick finishes. Our main objective here was to avoid demolishing the wall and throwing it in the land fill, so we did what we do best and got creative. We convinced our clients to let us re-face the wall and pour a new custom concrete cap to go along with the other concrete elements in the yard. 

We are thrilled with the final outcome, and are here to share the process with you! Yes, we know a magician never shares their secrets, but believe it or not we aren’t actually magicians! ;)

STEP 1: Demo the outdated brick cap

STEP 2: Rebar and forming

STEP 3: Pour concrete and remove forms

STEP 4: Create control joints approximately every 4’

STEP 5: Install vertical pressure treated 2x4s on wall.

STEP 6: Install trex fascia boards horizontally fastening to 2x4s

STEP 7: SIt back and enjoy your new landscape
